What's New in Book Two
Book Two comes out in one week, so here's what's waiting for readers who finished Book One.
A different kind of world. Door Two was loud: patrols, explosions, a heavy gunner that never stops coming. Door One is the opposite. Floating blocks, gold coins, mushrooms, a bridge. It's bright and gentle, and that turns out to be its own kind of dangerous.
Lives, up close. Book One taught the difference between lives and strikes. Book Two puts lives at the center: three per world, a little face in the corner, and a bridge that has already taken more than its share.
The youngest kid in the series. Ellie is nine and has been there eight months, alone, working out the rules. Writing her changed how I thought about the whole series. Marcus showed the boys that somebody might be behind a door. Ellie shows them what it costs to be that somebody when you're nine.
Jr's counting runs out. Jr counts everything. In Book Two, he starts to understand that some things in the hallway can't be measured, and that a wrong number is still better than no number. Dakota has a lot to say about that.
Same door, same time. Some things don't change.
The Mirror: Extra Life arrives November 16.
